The following tips will help to get you started.
Profile
- Add detail to your Tutor Profile, especially the experience section. Students (or their guardians) will use this when deciding to choose you or an alternative tutor.
- Add a headshot photo which is professional and friendly. This will increase new tutoring requests and will allow students to recognise you when you first meet.
Messaging
- Reply quickly to new tutoring requests. The student (or their guardian) may have contacted other tutors and you should try to be the first to reply. If they don't hear back from you within 24h they will likely contact a different tutor.
- Offer a free trial so you can meet the student or guardian inside your Tutor Room. This allows you to discuss the students goals and requirements and to demonstrate and promote your tutoring services. Suggest multiple possible days and times to make arranging the trial quicker and easier.
Scheduling
- Arrange a regular time slot for lessons. Students who agree to a regular day and time each week are far more reliable and consistent in attending lessons.
- Try to avoid rearranging if possible because this reduces attendance, but otherwise propose some alternative time slots and send reminders.
Tutoring
- Learn how to start online lessons to ensure your first lesson with a new student goes well.
- Practise using the Tutor Room tools to enhance your online teaching.
