This article explains how to find a tutor and setup tutoring.
Find a tutor
Start by searching for a tutor (from the top menu click Find a tutor). Once you've found a suitable tutor, send them a message to make an enquiry (from the tutor's profile, click Contact tutor).
In your message try to include as much detail as possible, including:
- the subject and level of tutoring required (e.g. Maths GCSE);
- desired frequency of lessons (e.g. once per week);
- availability for lessons (e.g. Tuesday evenings);
- any other specific requirements.
You can request 1-to-1 private tutoring or small group tutoring. For small group tutoring the cost of the lesson can be shared between multiple students, who can attend the same online lesson from different locations.
Once you've contacted the tutor they will show in your messages area (from the top menu select My account then Messages). You'll receive an email notification when the tutor replies. If you don't hear back from the tutor or if you would like help or advice with choosing a tutor, please contact us (from the top menu select Help then Contact).
Add a student
To attend online lessons, you'll need to add a student to your account. Student have their own account and login details so they can message the tutor and attend online lessons. As their guardian you're in full control of their account and have full visibility over all their activity. You can add multiple students to your account, if required.
To add a student, from the top menu select My students then click Add student. For safeguarding, only the student's first name and the initial of their surname will be visible to tutors, all other details are private and used only for account administration.
Once you've added a student, you'll see them listed in your My students area.
Link student to tutor
Once you've added a student to your account, you'll need to link them to a tutor (My students > Options cog > Link to a tutor). This allows the student to attend online lessons with the tutor. It also allows the student and tutor to exchange messages, all of which will be visible to you as the student's guardian.
Request a free trial
If a tutor offers a free trial then this will be indicated on their tutor profile next to their hourly rate. It is at the discretion of each individual tutor as to whether they offer you a free trial. The length and format of free trials will also vary from one tutor to another. To find out about the free trial offered by a specific tutor, simply send them a message.
If a tutor offers you a free trial, you'll need to link your student to the tutor, which will allow the tutor to award the free trial. Once the tutor has awarded the free trial you'll see it displayed in your Their tuition area (from the top menu select My account then Their tuition). A Free trial tag will show next to the tutor's rate, indicating that the next session with that tutor will be free of charge.
Arrange lessons
To arrange a lesson for one of your students, simply send the tutor a message to propose some suitable days and times. If you need to rearrange or cancel, simply send the tutor another message, giving them as much notice as possible. There's no need for any booking system because the lesson will be automatically logged after it has finished.
Once you've arranged a lesson, ensure you know how to attend a lesson. You may also need to top up your student's Wallet to pay for tutoring.
